36TH National Black Nurses’ Association Conference and Institute was held at Mandela Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 4-8, 2008. Members attending: Patricia Ruffin, Betty Borden, Mary Baldwin, Patricia Blue, Joyce Roland, Lorna Harris, Dorothy Powell,  Edna Williams, Angela Spruill, Angeline Baker, Wilbert King, Erma Smith-King and Lily Richardson.

The Theme of the conference was Nursing Practice: "The Prevention and Management of Chronic Diseases.”

Program Overview

35TH Annual Educational-Lecture-Luncheon was held in Atlanta, a, Georgia, July 25-29- 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Members attending were Sara Howell, Angela Spruill, Bertha Williams, Lorna Harris, Dorothy Powell, Lily Richardson, Erma, Smith-King, and Marilyn Christopher.

 On Friday, the Conference Presenter was Dr. Dorothy Powell, CCBNC member. Her Topic was “Enhancing Nursing Education Through Globalization.”

25th Anniversary Gala Celebration attended by our National President, Dr. Bettye Davis Lewis was held on Saturday, December 2, 2007 at the Raddisson Governors Inn. Theme, “Carrying the Torch-1982-2007”. Scholarships to the nursing departments of North Carolina Central University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University were presented.

17TH Annual Educational Lecture Luncheon

Our own Dr. Sharon Ware ,RN, Ed.D, Child Care Nurse Consultant, Children & Youth Branch, Division
of Public Health , Department of Health & Human Services, Raleigh, N.C. was the keynote speaker.
The luncheon sponsored by the Central Carolina Black Nurses’ Council, Inc. was held, December 2, 2006
at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. Dr. Ware’s address discussed “Children - An Untapped Resource.”
The Renaissance Band, composed of high school and college African American males, provided the music
for this occasion.
 

 Nursing Scholarships went to:

 Ernest Dick and Ashley McNeil of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
 Jennifer Williams, Kamah Killen and Shekeba Gaither
of North Carolina Central University

 Sonia White --North Carolina Central University student  and member of CCBNC was the recipient
 of the 2006 National Black Nurses’ Association Ruth E. Miller Scholarship.

Conference and Institute in Hollywood, Florida. Topic was “Using the Internet to Deliver Clinical Education.”

16th Annual Educational Lecture Luncheon
 

Dr. Mary Holt Ashley, Chief Nurse Executive, Harris County Hospital District, Houston, Texas delivered a dynamic keynote address at the 16th Annual Educational Lecture-Luncheon. The luncheon, sponsored by the Central Carolina Black Nurses' Council, Inc., was held recently at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, N. C. Dr. Holt-Ashley's address discussed "Capturing the Wisdom of Graying Nurse Leaders". The Nursing Scholarship recipients were:
         Sonia White and Sharon Davis from North Carolina Central University
 
        Peace Darku and Gifty Amponsah from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

National Black Nurses Association 2004 Conference


The NBNA 32nd Annual Institute and Conference was held August 4-8-2004 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco, California. The theme was “ Evidence-Based Research for Successful Aging” with the focus on prevention and managing chronic and debilitating conditions. Attending the conference from CCBNC, Inc. were Dr. Lorna Harris, Marilyn Christopher, Bertha Williams, Erma Smith-King (delegate) and Patricia Ruffin (delegate). Currently, CCBNC, Inc. is the only chapter in North Carolina.

The Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association hosted its first conference in conjunction with the NBNA Convention on Saturday, August 7, 2004.

 7th Annual Scholarship Fashion Show/Luncheon March 27, 2004

  

The Central Carolina Black Nurses' Council, Inc. 7th Annual Scholarship Fashion Show/Luncheon was held at North    Carolina Mutual Insurance Building on March 27, 2004. The theme was "Fashions with Flair and Eloquence". Sassy colors, Pucci swirls and hot floral dominated the show along with a return on the "retro" look! Everyone had fun as they received tips on fashions, a delicious lunch and lovely plants as door prizes.
