Betty Borden participated in the Case Management for Aids/Addiction Through Resources/Referral and Education workshop and health fair held on January 19, 2009(Martin Luther King Day)

Commander Shonda Stacey    participated as a speaker at the American Correctional Association Conference in Kissimee, Florida- January 9-14, 2009. The topic of the presentation was “Line Nurse to Supervisor: Ain’t One of the Boys Anymore.”

Connie Kelley-Sidberry, Connie Levister, Erma Smith-King and Wilbert King participated in the graduate and student nurses’ breakfast as part of the homecoming activities Organization at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Erma Smith-King received one of Central Carolina Black Nurses’ Council, Inc. chapter’s first Distinguished Service Awards on December 6, 2008.

Patricia Ruffin received one of Central Carolina Black Nurses’ Council, Inc chapter’s first Distinguished Service Awards on December 6, 2008.

Delethia Lloyd was one of the annual chapter’s scholarship recipients presented on December 6; 2008.She is a student at Watts School of Nursing.

Felice Carlton was one of the annual chapter’s scholarship recipients presented on December 6; 2008.She is a student at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Connie Kelley-Sidberry participated in the Health Careers Workshop for high school seniors on September 2, 2008. On November 7, 2008 attended the Old North State Medical Society’s Tobacco Cessation Seminar and Luncheon held in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Patricia Ruffin, RN article “THE NURSE AS A PATIENT” was published in the 2006 fall issue of the NATIONAL BLACK NURSES ASSOCIATION (NBNA) NEWS, the official publication of the NATIONAL BLACK NURSES ASSOCIATION.

Patricia Ruffin, RN was one of the honorees recently recognized at the 26th Annual Recognition Luncheon of the National Council of Negro Women, Durham Section. The Theme was “Sharing and Serving in Unity.”

Adriane Harper, RN graduated in June 2007 and successfully passed the NCLEX exam in July 2007.

Lorna Harris, RN, PhD, FAAN Chair and Professor, Department of Nursing ,North Carolina Central University was inducted into the Institute of Excellence at the National Black Nurses’s Association  Conference and Institute.

Shonda Stacey, RNBC, BSN, MSN, was recently appointed as Nurse Manager at Federal Medical Center at Butner, NC.

Ashley Leak,  RN, BSN, OCN, T32 NRSA Pre-Doctoral Fellow was awarded the National Black Nurses’ Association Scholarship at the 36th Annual Conference and Institute that was held in August, 2008 in las Vegas Nevada.

Angela Spruill, RN, BSN, OCN has been selected as one of the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina for 2008. The award Gala will be held  September 27 at the Sheraton Hotel at Four Seasons in Greensboro, North Carolina (Joseph S. Koury Convention Center). The Great 100, Inc. is a grassroots organization, which allows peers the opportunity to nominate the best nurses in North Carolina and to acknowledge those who demonstrate excellent nursing care to their patients and who have a commitment to their vital profession. This organization recognizes the significance of Registered Nurses in diverse practice settings.

Dr. Sharon Ware, BSN, MA, Ed. D, RN has accepted a full time position in the Department of Nursing at North Carolina Central University.

Shonda Stacey, RN, BC, BSN, was promoted to Commander-Active Duty--United States Public Health Services, effective July1, 2006

Dr. Louise Gooche RN, Ed. D received the Star Citizens Award for Community Services, the Outstanding Service Youth Award from the Boy Scouts of America and is Volunteer Director of Health Education -- Triangle YMCA--Durham, North Carolina.

Betty Borden, RN, BSN, received the Margaret K. Goodwin Award presented by Senior PharmaAssist for providing exemplary service to help senior adults in Durham, North Carolina lead a healthier and more independent lives through medication assistance and other health preventive services. Betty serves as a Parish nurse.

Erma Smith-King, Dr. Joyce Roland, and  Angeline Baker are also members of the Nursing Department at North Carolina Central University.

Central Carolina Black Nurses Council, Inc., celebrated its 25th Anniversary on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Radisson Governor’s Inn in Durham, North Carolina. The theme of this Black Tie Gala Celebration was “Carrying the Torch” 1982-2007. Dr. Bettye Davis Lewis was our special guest. Scholarships of $1,000.00 each was given to the Schools of Nursing at North Carolina A & T State University and North Carolina Central University.
 

  18th Annual Educational Lecture_Luncheon and Scholarship Awards will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 11:00am at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Our keynote Speaker will be Dr. Audwin B. Fletcher, RN, PhD, CFNP, Associate Professor of Nursing, University Of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi.
