NBNA Chapter Presidents and Vice Presidents attended a day long session on
“The Spirit of Caring” and mini sessions on parliamentary procedures, public
relations, recruitment and retention of members. Clearly, caregivers are
facing challenges from every direction because of the physical and emotional
demand of the work. We were challenged to encourage others to vote in the
upcoming election, hoping to help make a difference.
Thursday, August 5, 2004 --- Concurrent Sessions
Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, HIV/Aids, and Women’s Health.
The Opening Ceremony Processional included the Chapter Presidents and
Delegates.
Friday, August 6, 2004
We had to rise and shine early to be in attendance at the 6:30 am breakfast.
Topics discussed were: “Access to Medication and the Medicare Drug Benefit”
and “Nursing Leadership in HIV care in the Mature Population”
This was “Red Dress Day” in recognition of the “Health Truth” campaign to
educate women and men about heart disease. Everyone wore something red and
what a beautiful sight this was!
Dr. Lorna Harris presented “Evaluation of the Senior Prescription Drug
Assistance Program in Minority Communities.”
Nursing forums were held for Advanced Practice Nurses, Direct Members,
Genetics, LPNs, Military Nurses, and Nursing Students.
Concurrent Sessions were: End of life, Healthcare for the Aged, Legal
Issues, Men’s Health, Multicultural Aging and Professional education.
Panel discussions were: Exercise Physiology, Spiritual Health and Financial
Health.
